For this activity the teachers made a truck from cardboard boxes, and the children painted it. After it was dry, the kids played with it in the dramatic play area.
You should definitely harness the creativity within a person while s/he is still young. Taking the kid to various places would surely jog her or his imagination and creativity at the same time. Maybe it would also be great if they could see how an actual vehicle is painted too.
