Music Activity: One Elephant Went Out to Play

For this music activity we first used masking tape to make a spider web on the floor. Next we sung and played the One Elephant Went Out to Play game.

Music Activity: Musical Shapes

First, the teachers used tape to make shapes on the floor. Next, we put on music and had the children dance around the shapes. After dancing for a minute, we turned off the music and called out the name of a shape. The children had to move to that shape and try to get everyone standing on that shape. The kids had to really cooperate with each other in order to fit everyone on one shape.

Music Activity: Glow Stick Dancing

For this activity we gave each child a glow stick and let them dance around in the dark. They had a blast doing this.

Music Activity: Jelly Fish Dance

We used the jelly fish that the children made for an art activity earlier in the week for this music activity.  We played some soft classical music and asked the children to move their jelly fish as if they were swimming in the ocean.

Music Activity: Horns, Fangs, Knees and Claws

For our music activity we sang the song Horns, Fangs, Knees and Claws.  This is an alternate version of the favorite children's song "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", but we've reworked it a little bit to fit our monster stories theme.

Music Activity: Wild Rumpus

For our music activity today we had a Wild Rumpus.  A Wild Rumpus is sort of a monster parade where you make lots of noise and play your instruments really loud.  Each child had an instrument for this activity.

Music Activity: How Does this Creature Move?

We showed the children some pictures of strange Dr. Seuss characters and ask them "How would this creature move if it were dancing?"  The children then danced how they thought the creature would dance.  Add a little dance music and the kids had a great time dancing.
